Hi my 8 month baby has got his first real cold he can't stop coughing and his chest sounds as though it has a lot if mucus on it he isn't sleeping.

Humidity: There are no good cough medicines to give an 8 month old. They cause more problems than they solve. Try and clear the mucous from the nose with saline drops and gentle suction. Usually the coughing is made worse by the mucous drainage down the throat. Lots of humidiity helps - take him in shower, run humidifier, boil water on your stove, go to the jungle - all will help. Feed small amountw often.
