A member asked:

I had covid 2 weeks. i've been coughing a lot at night with mucus & have difficulty sleeping due to it. what can i do to clear the mucus in my chest, and will the cough go away? is this a serious covid complication?

A mucolytic like mucinex can help. Taking deep breaths and expanding your lungs will also help to clear secretions. The cough from covid can linger for a while after infection. My cough lasted about 2 months after i had covid, but it did eventually go away.

I would only consider a course of an appropriate antibiotic if you have copious amounts of discolored sputum and your chest examination demonstrates signs of bronchitis. A chest X-Ray would be advisable if you have fever or shaking chills.
