Easy?: Eat less and better. Low fat, and salt. Exercise 30 minutes/day at least 3 days/week. Does not matter so much what that exercise is. Just love it. Stay with it. Its not what you do as much as how long you do it, good luck. This advise is free, easy and a lot cheaper than the atkins book. Who knew?.....

Burning more: Calories than one consumes is an important factor and running will increase the burn rate. That said, vigorous exercise of any type will help. Swimming, plyometrics, interval training, etc. Are aerobic activities that you may consider based upon your inclination. One way is not necessarily preferable.
