Lack of stretching: The hamstrings are the biceps femoris muscles that stretch from the gluteus down to the back of the knee. Soccer is a high activity sport with reaching and stretching for the ball. Also a lot of standing with sudden sprinting. Improper stretching can make the hamstrings susceptible to injury. Twisting, straining, and getting hit in the leg can cause partial tearing in a muscle already stretched.
