Routine cleanings: Even with good oral hyg, a professional cleaning can reduce buildup below the gum line where you may not be able to reach the tartar.

Dentist and OH: Go to your dentist every 6 months for an exam and cleaning with xrays. Always brush 2-3 times a day with an ada approved Fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and rinse once a day with listerine.

Treatment: Previous comments are directed at prevention or maintenance, however your question indicates you are looking to treat/eliminate existing disease. My recommendation is to consult a board certified periodontist that uses l.A.N.A.P. Laser surgery. It not only eliminates disease but promotes regeneration of tissue lost to disease. Your disease may not be severe enough and may be treatable via srp.

1st + See Dentist: 1) use a softmanual toothbrush. 2) place the brush where the teeth and the gum join together. 3) move the brush in circles. 4) do all teeth this way on the face side and the tongue side. 5) initially the gum may bleed because you are cleaning out an open sore, however this bleeding will stop and the tissue will now begin to heal. 6) follow up with a water pik spraying water in circles same places.
