Relevency?: In my personal opinion, while this testing may give us more information, the relevance of the results usually do not alter the treatment protocol nor affect the outcome of the treatment. We are still in the early stages of incorporating this technology into our treatment regimen. It may well only have significance in the some severe cases of periodontitis that resist conventional methods of tx.

It is complicated: The mouth is an ecosystem with multiple organisms in balance with our immune system, each other, the foods we eat, and more. More than one bacteria has been identified with periodontal infections but is it the cause or opportunistic? Thus the usefulness of dna testing for a specific bacteria is questioned by many.
