Pericoronitis: I assume you are talking about pericorontitis, an inflammation of the gum surrounding the crown of a partially erupted wisdom tooth. An operculectomy, the cutting away of the inflamed gum, can relieve the pain, but often the gum flap will grow back. The removal of the tooth is 100% successful in curing the problem.
