Probably nothing: Many/most varicoceles are not associated with infertility, but seeing a specialist - a urologist with expertise in male fertility - would be a great idea, even for reassurance.

See answer: Most men with varicocele will be fertile. Some infertile men with varicocele may see improvement in sperm quality with varicocele repair. If you have testis shrinkage (atrophy) or pain, it is reasonable to consider repair, but most men with varicocele will not likely be rendered infertile by it.

Surgery needed: A varicocele is a mass in the scrotum caused by defective valves in the testicular veins, which cause blood to pool, and the veins to expand. The pooling blood raises testicular temperature and affects testosterone and sperm production, which can affect fertility. Men can still have babies w/ this, but the odds are lower. Tx safely w/ varicocelectomy, ligation, or embolization.
