Spinal cord problem?: A person who loses some ability to walk (without a known reason) usually sees the doctor right away to check for a neurological problem. If there is also a change in bowel or bladder function, the situation is serious. Such patients are seen in the er and get scanned to look for compression of the spinal cord, which can cause permanent disability. Calling 911 will get one to the hospital quickly.
