Trapped nerve?: Some nerves traveling along the side of the hip can become irritated if your putting too much pressure on that side. Suggest shifting your sleep and using a supportive pillow. If this doesn't work, suggest an orthopedic eval.

Trochanter Bursitis: Depending on your age and common in women, is a type of bursitis that affects the trochanteric bursa. This bursa sits just over the outside of your hip, about where you put your hand in your pocket. It is called trochanteric bursitis. It is often self limiting but can be treated with a steroid injection if it persists. See an orthopaedic surgeon.
