Stage 4 lung cancer: I'm sorry to hear about your best friend. Stage 4 lung cancer non-small cell type nowadays with all the advances we have made in modern chemotherapy and targeted therapies, the average survival is about 12-15 months. The chances of making 2 years is about 20% and chances of making 5 years are less than 5 %. There are very few patients who survive long term.

Thee is always hope: Stage 4 lung cancer is usually incurable. Nonetheless, many advances have been made and we see patients surviving over two years. Brain scans and adequate biopsies are essential for proper chracterization and molecular identification. Emotional support cam go a long way. To the patient: have a sense of acceptance and peace of mind. To you: be of a good cheer!
