Difficult to say: It could be one of many things. You could have pulled a muscle in the back. It could be a strain. If you lifted something heavy and improperly, it can lead to herniated disk in the spine causing pain. If you have osteoporosis or conditions leading to weak bones, compression fracture is an option too. It can likely also be benign though and may go away with rest and anti-inflammatory meds.
