Increase fluids: Excess mucous and secondary hoarseness commonly occurs with an upper respiratory infection and/or allegic rhinitis. Drinking more fluids, like hot tea with lemon or honey, will help sooth the throat and liquify the thick mucous. If there is no improvement in a few days, then you should seek medical attention.
