Medications effect: Some medications, like biaxin, (clarithromycin) have a side effect of a metallic taste in the mouth. This is just a sign that the medication is working and is usually temporary.

NO: H-pylori is a bacterium in the stomach which is associated with stomach ulcers or excess gastric acid production. Occasionally some the excess stomach acid can back up into the throat and cause a sensation of a "lump in the throat" similar to the sensation of excess mucous in the throat. You should seek medical attention to diagnose and treat this condition.

Increase fluids: Excess mucous and secondary hoarseness commonly occurs with an upper respiratory infection and/or allegic rhinitis. Drinking more fluids, like hot tea with lemon or honey, will help sooth the throat and liquify the thick mucous. If there is no improvement in a few days, then you should seek medical attention.
