A member asked:

Who sees serotonin syndrome-neurologist or psychiatrist?

9 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Both! ...even GI Dr.: There are a number of medications that work as ssri's (specific serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and any combination of them could lead to this syndrome... Or if another medication is interfering with the metabolism of that drug or serotonin itself. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that could accumulate to toxic levels by a number of different pathways. Er doctors probably see this the most!

Emergency Room: Serotonin syndrome is potentially lethal. If you suspect it, immediately call your md and go to your local emergency room for evaluation.
