CREDENTIALING: A neuropsychologist holds either a PhD or a PsyD, and all he/she does is cognitive testing typically, not much therapy if at all. A neurologist is an MD or a DO and specializes in the biophysiological functioning of the nervous system. A psychiatrist is either an MD or a DO and specializes in psychiatric disorders and has the power to prescribe psychotropic medications. It depends on symptoms.
