Could be: For a very specific type of hypertension spironolactone would be more or less the "drug of choice". Generally it is not the mainstay of hypertensive management. Other diuretics such as hydrochlorothizide or Chlorthalidone are used. Spironolactone is usually used for the treatment of congestive heart failure and cirrhosis. It can cause high potassium levels. In conn's disease it would be good.

Possibly: This is a very special diuretic aimed at blocking aldosterone which is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands causing salt retention and arterial constriction. If you have a condition leading to aldosterone excess this drug could work very well for you.
