Keep him hydrated...: The main concern with diarrhea is dehydration if he's not drinking enough, so make sure he continues to drink. You can sometimes shorten the duration of diarrhea with probiotic supplements, which are good, protective bacteria that tend to push out the germs causing the illness. Do not give anti-diarrhea medications; the body gets rid of these illnesses by pooping them out.

Don't: The goal is to keep the child hydrated during this time. You can offer some probiotics which may speed the time to recovery. But in most cases the diarrhea just needs to run its course. The body is trying to flush out the pathogens. You don't want to stop that. If it persists for days or becomes heavy make sure to see your pediatrician -- there could overgrowth of pathologic bacteria or paras.
