Learn to control: Trauma caused the bleed. He or you need to pinch the nose shut in the fleshy part near the tip with thumb and forefinger for 5 minutes to stop the bleeding at the first sign of bleeding. Then leave alone or use a little ointment to prevent dryness. It can take 3 weeks at times for it to heal securely so that slight trauma doesn't restart bleeding. See dr if persists longer or not controlled, .

Picking on the: Nose will certainly cause nosebleeding. Blowing or rubbing your nose hard can also cause nosebleeding.Worry if he has other signs and symptoms of easy bruising , easy fatigability, petechiae, prolonged bleeding, swollen glands. Take him to his pediatrician to rule out blood disorders if concerned.

Probably not: Often when children pick their noses, they will get a bleed. When they pick it again, they pull off the scab and it bleeds again. Treatment is to trim fingernails short so that they can't dig in their nose (when you aren't watching). Also, putting a little lubricant like vaseline in the nose for a day or two can soften the scab until it fully heals, so it's less likely to be pulled off and bleed.
