I had gastric bypass 2 years ago. i'm having horrible gas problems. i started taking active charcoal pills, am i harming myself?

No: You won't harm yourself with charcoal. The gas may be because you're unable to break down wheat. Try eliminating it completely ... Be careful to read food labels, as many foods may have wheat/wheat products ... That you might never consider. Another possibility is overgrowth of "bad" bacteria in the intestine; ask your doctor to prescribe Flagyl 500 mg 3x/day for 14 days. Good health!

No: Charcoal will not harm you. What gas comes out after gastric bypass is completely dependant on your diet. Try to reduce carbohydrates. See your bariatric program and see if they can help you.
