Temp fluctuation: Your toddler seems to have a viral infection. He has a normal temperature fluctuation, where the temp is lower in the day and rises as the day passes.

Depends: Your toddler might have a virus that is causing the fever. Most ear infections are caused by viruses and your child's symptoms can be controlled by tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen. I would say if your child's symptoms are not getting better then they might need re-evaluation by their doctor. Ear infections with high fevers sometimes require antibiotics for treatment.

Monitor closely.: Fever is a symptom--just like cough, vomiting, or diarrhea. Often a toddler's fever is triggered by non-serious causes. Most pediatricians would agree that 104* fever is more troubling than 100.4* temperature; so, should that occur, perhaps another office visit is in order...Illnesses sometimes are slow to progress to the point of actual diagnosis. Any new symptom might also warrant another call.
