5 days: General rule is 5 days. If fever is still there and the same on day # 5, you need to go back and let doctor recheck your baby.

Sounds viral: At his point. If the fever lasts more than 5 days or the child becomes lethargic take them back to the doctor. Keep them hydrated. Use cool mist vaporizer.

Common cold: Sounds like an acute viral URI and she should recover uneventfully within 5-7 days. If fever becomes higher, behavior patterns change, not feeding, sleeping excessively, developing new symptoms would call your family doctor or pediatrician and let them know what is going on and follow their directions.
