Depends: Sorry to hear that. One has to know the specifics. If he had transected his spinal cord he could not breath and he would have to be on a ventilator for the rest of his life. If there has been improvement, there will be a chance of continued improvement . If his improvement has plateaued , that is usually as good an improvement as you will see.
