Perfusion: Color on the ultrasound shows direction of blood flow. Some machines depict flow away from the ultrasound probe (transducer) as red and toward the transducer as blue (in an attempt to simulate arterial (red) and venous (blue) flow). This feature is called color flow imaging and can be superimposed on regular (gray scale) images of whatever structure they are looking at to get an idea of blood flow.
