No: Although internal hardware can occasionally become loose and cause local irritation it would not directly affect your knees.

Not the screw: The cysts in your knees are not due to the screw used to correct your bunion deformity. If you are having pain in the big toe joint area, the screw could be a factor. Exam & x-ray would be needed to check the screw. You need to provide more info to be helped regarding the apparent "cysts in your knees.".

Not likely.: The screw itself in your foot is not likely the cause of cysts in your knees. If you have pain at the site of the retained hardware, it may need to come out, but in general it will not cause pain or changes elsewhere in your body.

Hardware: If hardware is painful , it causes pain where the hardware is located, not elsewhere in the body. See your orthopedist for the knee pain good luck.

Knee cyst: Properly placed screws to align structures most often are not painful. Knee cysts, popliteal, meniscal, Baker's cysts form from tears in the cartilage & allows normal joint fluid to leak out of the joint. We constantly make new joint fluid and absorb excess fluid. When fluid escapes the joint, a pouch forms. Unusual relate to foot screw rather a derangement at knee. See orthopedist-
