Low impact exercises: If you have been diagnosed with chondromalacia of the knee, you should focus on low impact quadriceps strengthening exercises. Strengthening the quadriceps will allow the muscle to decrease the stress to the joints. Another strategy is to maintain a healthy weight. Finally, avoidance of kneeling, squatting will also help minimize your symptoms.

Wearing of cartilage: Patellofemoral syndrome causes pain in the anterior knee. It can be due to excessive wear on the backside of the kneecap from malalignment. Treatment often tries to target this factor. Can include pt and bracing to improve this. Avoidance of squatting and irritating activities is also important. Injections may be helpful-hyaluronic acid, steroid, though not as much if abnormal mechanics persist.
