Is there any difference between pleural effusion and tb?my doctor told me you have pleural effusion, not tb. but he is giving me rifampicin.

Pleural effusion: There is a potential space between the layers of tissue surrounding the lungs. When fluid enters this space it is called pleural effusion. Tb is an infection which can cause pleural effusion. Have no idea why your doctor is giving you rifampicin, but if you ask him, am sure he will tell you.

Disease & symptom: A pleural effusion is a collection of fluid between the lung and chest wall which can be caused by any inflammatory process of the lung or diaphragm in most cases. Tb is an specific infectious disease.
