Many things: While usually transient pain is much more reassuring than progressive or constant pain, it would be difficult to fully help find the source of such pain without a doctors appointment. Some common sources of sharp right sided chest pain could include muscle or rib sprain (most likely), gallbladder pain, pleurisy (irritation of the lining of the lung), lung infection. See a doc to figure it out.

Chest wall or lungs: This sounds like costochondritis, an inflammation of the cartilage that connects the ribs to one another and to the breast bone. This condition can causing sharp, knife-like pain at areas in the chest wall;however it does not typically last longer than a few seconds. If you have had a "chest cold" recently, another possibility would be pleuritis, or inflammation of the lung lining. See your doc.

Gallbladder: Sometimes your gallbladder can cause right sided chest pain, referred. If the pain occurred on inspiration, perhaps the lung on this side may be the cause. I would suggest an ultrasound and hida scan along with blood work such as a cmp to help you find the answer. Also, does the pain occur in relationship to meals? These will help you rule in or out one possible cause.
