Need EMG : You should have an EMG to assess the degree of nerve injury. This can also be used in the months following to determine if the nerve is recovering.

Not necessarily: First, the nerve coverings or myelin may improve within 3-4 weeks after problem stabilized, but the nerve regrowth, if axonal, may resolve at .1 mm daily, speed of fingernail growth, so must be patient and use an AFO splint. Best to get EMG to objectify.

Bracing: I agree- you need an EMG to assess and the periodically to check on progress.
