Doctor said 30% optic nerve damage & no peripheral vision lost. he said at 50% damage i would notice vision loss. does this sound reasonable?

Yes: Our eyes are really globes with the back part lined by a film called the retina. We really only pay attention to the images in about 50% of its surface - the ones that are within the limits of the movements of our lens. So you can suffer a certain amount of damage and still not hamper your effective vision.

Yes : We can measure nerve damage that does not effect vision or visual field. In most cases of glaucoma, the disease is advanced before the patient notices anything. This lost vision is permanent.
