Dr. Alvin Lin answered

(Pre) diabetes: Insulin resistance is usually diagnosed in someone who is overweight or obese or has a large waist circumference (>40" in men & >35" in women). There are no symptoms of ir but it means that you need more Insulin to keep your sugars in control compared to "normal" non-Insulin resistant person. Treatment is healthy diet & regular exercise in order to lose weight. Metformin is drug of choice.
