Parotitis: Parotitis is an inflammation of the parotid gland, which is a salivary gland on the side of the face just in front of and under the ear. Given the associated bad taste, i suspect you may have a bacterial infection of that gland and a course of antibiotics is recommended. You can see your primary care physician for this problem.

See your dentist: Sounds like a salivary stone--blockage of the parotid gland. See your dentist asap for proper diagnosis and referral/treatment.

Infection? : There are many possibilities. The first one that comes to mind is an infection. See a dentist first who can refer you to a physician or specialist if necessary. You may even have more than one problem.
