Tylenol (acetaminophen): Arthritis strength tylenol (acetaminophen) is helpful. Vicodin (hydrocodone) is a narcotic and the chronic use of narcotics for pain control can cause serious side effects, including narcotic dependence, narcotic tolerance, and hyperalgesia (hyspersensitivity to pain). This class of drugs should not be used to treat arthritis pain unless no other options are effective.
