Can occur suddenly: Fibroid degeneration occurs when fibroid dies. It happens to fibroids when the woman goes in to menopause. Can also be present in pre-menoausal women. Growth of fibroid can outstrip it's ability to deliver blood flow to all portions of fibroid. These areas will die off lead to degeneration and ultimately scarring/calcification. Can happen acutely, cause patient to go to er. Can mimic appendicitis.
