The tissue: In the fibroid does not have sufficient blood supply and so it begins to die (degenerate). This can cause pain and fever and abdominal tenderness. It is not usually dangerous, but can be very uncomfortable. It generally only happens with fairly large fibroids that are only connected to the uterus by stalks.
