Dr. Christian Schultheis answered

No: It is a blood test. It can be done on the bone marrow or blood. Hope this helps.

I was sent to a hematologist due to mildly elevated WBC at 11. No symptoms and my WBC count has been elevated at 11 for many years. Flow cytometry test came back negative but WBC was still elevated. Does that mean no blood cancer cells found?
Routine blood work showed my monocytes were 12.2%. This was repeated in 6 months and was 15.3% and then 6 months later was 15.8%. Dr wants me to see a hematologist. Is this necessary?
I asked if an anemia with genetic characteristics might require a different diagnostic work up. General information online only repeats basic tests a hematologist might do. Maybe it's not something a hematologist would diagnose? What's IFE?
