Routine blood work showed my monocytes were 12.2%. this was repeated in 6 months and was 15.3% and then 6 months later was 15.8%. dr wants me to see a hematologist. is this necessary?

Hard to comment, your absolute monocyte count might still be normal if total WBC is on the lower side of normal 4000-5000. Not a bad idea to have a hematologist comment on it and trend in case believed to be trending high.
