See below: Black stool needs to be checked by doc to r/o upper GI bleeding (esophagus, stomach, small intestine) & check for tear in anus as well as hemorrhoids. Otc preps abound: preparation h (plain or w/ hydrocortisone), witch hazel wipes. Prevent hard stools/straining by using stool softener &/or increasing dietary fiber & fluid intake.
