What kind of ultrasound is it when they do the bubble study on your heart?

Bubble echo: It's an echocardiogram. Ultrasound of your heart with saline infusion, looking for a whole in the muscle between 2 chambers.

Bubble crossing: It is called saline contrast study. Saline with a tiny amount of air is agitated and injected into the vein. This can be well seen by echo. If it crosses from the right heart chambers to the left then it is an indication of a hole in the heart which could potentially carry a blood clot from the right side to the left side of the heart and then to the brain. This is an uncommon cause for stroke.
