A member asked:

How accurate is 3 week elisa blood tests on hiv? elisa test is the newest hiv detection test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Very accurate: The elisa assay is one of the longest standing tests for antibodies to hiv. Positive results must be confirmed using western blot or other tests. If negative at 3 wks you should be retested at 3 and 6 months to be absolutely certain, but those latter tests are rarely positive if the 3 wk test was negative. Be safe. Have only protected sex until both partners assuredly negative, and monogamous.
