Yes: It is a viable technique to prevent you having a large amount of pain/discomfort after the procedure. It will probably be supplemented by either general or sedation anesthesia.

No: Not common but theoretically it is an option, as is spinal and general anesthesia.

Can be, but I prefer: An epidural can be used, but I much prefer the use of TIVA (IV sedation) which eliminates a lot of risk. The epidural causes a lot of vasodilation (dilation of the vessels), and can create a risk factor for DVT. Dilated veins can also pose risks for the fat injection process. I prefer not to introduce this risk!
