Opiates side effects: Opiates cause a negative effect on the respiratory center located in the fourth ventricle, in the midbrain. You do not forget to breathe, but your brain is less able to measure that the oxygen level is low, and the co2 is high, and unable to respond adequately to your demands. That is why is dangerous to combine opiates with benzodiazepines and alcohol. All of them are depressants of the cns.

Narcosis ?: Although very rare due to its ceiling effect, Suboxone (and other opiates) dosed inappropriately or used with alcohol or other sedatives may cause respiratory distress. This is more true in individuals with predisposition to sleep apnea. Recommend against taking the medication until discussed with doctor.
