Adaptive?: Stress is inevitable and to some degree anxiety is what inspires us to accomplish things. An anxiety disorder is a maladaptive pattern of responding to stress. Generalized anxiety disorder refers to a chronic level of dysfunctional anxiety. Panic disorder refers to discrete episodes of extreme anxiety with physical symptoms not related to a specific stressor which may lead to agoraphobia.
