It can: There are 2 main options for reconstructive breast surgery: breast implants or your own tissue. Tissue options involve moving skin, fat, and sometimes muscle, from other parts of the body. These "flap" techniques do leave scars where the tissue was taken from. Another tissue option in select cases is using fat alone which is obtained via liposuction which leaves very small, imperceptible scars.

Yes: If your abdomen is used, the scar will be like a tummy tuck scar, in the lower abdomen and around the belly button. If it is taken from your back, it is in your back and can be placed in a way to hide it under the bra.

Breast Cancer: There is a way to use fat from liposuction for breast reconstruction. The first stage is performed at the time of mastectomy. About 200cc of fat can be placed into each pectoralis muscle. Using the brava after the mastectomy wound has healed future sessions of fat grafting can be planned based on the expectation of size and shape desired by the patient. The diep flap leaves a tummy tuck scar only.

Scarring: Thank you for your question. While breast reconstruction procedures can help to restore the appearance of breasts after mastectomy, most procedures will require the use of surgical techniques that require some scarring. Some procedures, such as implant or tissue expander breast reconstruction, limit the amount of scarring by using the same scar as the mastectomy.
