A member asked:

Is there a standard procedure in place for treating a wound infection that develops after an embolectomy of the femoral artery?

Antibiotics: Usually embolectomy involves removal of the clot and primary closure of the artery without leaving a prosthetic patch on the artery. Infections will be treated with antibiotics and local wound care. If extensive infection and pus around the artery then incision and debridement of the wound with one or multiple visits to the operating room. Sometimes replacing the artery with a vein bypass

Yes: A simple wound infection is treated with antibiotics, however if there is a deeper abscess, this will need to be drained.
