Necrosis of skin: Dermal fillers are safe if used according to manufacturer's guidelines, and if injected properly by an experienced injector. Infection is extremely rare; more common concerns are bumps or irregularities, unwanted swelling, discoloration, and very rarely occlusion of a vessel leading to loss of skin circulation, ischemia, or skin death (necrosis) causing scarring. Staying close to the surface helps.

Bad Outcome.: If a dermal filler is injected into an artery or a vein potential complications can and probably will occur. If injected into an artery, the filler can cause the artery to clot or can be carried downstream to damage whatever that artery is feeding. Similarly, if injected into a vein, the filler can cause the vein to clot, become infected or pass upstream into another area.

Blindness: This is a very rare risk from fillers but has a card with all types of fillers. It is less likely to happen if the filler is injected very slowly and the doctor does not give a lot of filler in one session.

Risk of fillers: If filler is injected inadvertently into the artery, necrosis of the skin can occur. Have your face evaluated by a board certified facial aplastic surgeon with experience in injectables.
