A member asked:

How long does it take for arthritis to develop in a knee joint? i had surgery and the surgeon said my knee was clean but a mri told a different story

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Years: The arthritic process is a gradual loss of the smooth surface on the end of the bone. Degenerative arthritis takes years to develop whereas post traumatic arthritis can happen over a relatively short period of time. Mri often times finds things or can be interpreted as change without really having clinical significance.
