Need to know why: The usual causes of low hemoglobin are iron and/or folate (folic acid) deficiency. However, it is important to establish the cause and treat accordingly. In any case, a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, lentils; low in saturated fats, no tobacco, no more than one drink a day and regular exercise will help.
