Culture Result?: It is generally best to follow the culture data. If treating a UTI empirically, try a less broad-spectrum drug first. Bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) keflex, and Macrobid are good places to start. Quinolones should be saved for difficult/complicated utis, as resistance is already increasing.
