A member asked:

My 7yo daughter gets migraines she went to see a neuro and she put her on 3ml of gabapentin is this safe why didn't she do a ct or anything?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

CT's aren't benign: We now appreciate that the accumulation of radiation exposure over a lifetime of medical imaging can have its own risks, including an increased risk of cancer. That said, it might still be important to image the brain in someone with a new complaint of headache. Speak with your daughter's neurologist to learn how s/he came to the decision to not image. Gabapentin is safe and well tolerated.
